Philosophy
Discover our philosophy.
Since 1991, PICKAPOOH, as a hat manufacturer, has specialized in the design and production of ecological, sustainable, fashionable, and high-quality hats and other accessories that babies, children, and adults love to wear due to their good fit and soft, skin-friendly materials.
This is how we produce
Since 1998, we have exclusively manufactured products from pure natural fibers, adhering to strict ecological and social criteria – beneficial for people, animals, plants, and the environment. We produce only "MADE IN GERMANY", observing internationally accepted social standards, and we only employ permanent staff members. Without a team that is enthusiastic about creating a great product together, PICKAPOOH would be inconceivable! Our small company runs like clockwork – everyone is indispensable in our "to order" production system and, through personal commitment every day, ensures that our hats and other accessories are something very special.
Our Materials
We work exclusively with Merino virgin wool from certified organic livestock (kbT). Respect and regard for people, animals, and the environment are the guiding principles of organic animal husbandry. The sheep live in a species-appropriate, healthy, and stress-free manner! The pastures meet all climatic and ecological requirements, meaning no pesticides are used on the pastures or on the animals. The animals reproduce naturally, are not docked, and are allowed to keep their horns. In short, fine wool from happy animals.
Our Merino virgin wool/silk blend is ideal for our hats and neckerchiefs, as the material regulates warmth and moisture, thereby supporting a healthy skin climate. The hats made from this blend – 70% Merino virgin wool from certified organic livestock (kbT) and 30% silk – ensure a comfortable and pleasant wearing experience.
And we exclusively process cotton from certified organic cultivation (kbA). In kbA cultivation, chemical-synthetic fertilizers and pesticides are entirely avoided. Genetically modified seeds are prohibited. This means a conscious renunciation of negative influences on people, health, and the environment. We support fair trade under humane conditions.
UV Protection Collection
Since 2004, we have been offering an all-natural UV protection collection. Since summer 2022, we now offer four different UV protection levels (UV Protect 40, 60, and 80) – all certified according to UV-STANDARD 801. This standard tests under realistic wearing conditions and is recommended by Stiftung Warentest. It is much more reliable than the often-used Australian-New Zealand Standard, which only tests textiles when new and dry.
There are now 13 certified organic cotton fabrics (kbA) in classic colors: flame, Caribbean Sea, marine, red, dahlia, mystical, turbulence, slate green (UV80), jeans, azalea, golden yellow, green tea (UV60) taupe, rosé (UV40) – all without chemical additives. All items made from these materials reliably protect against harmful UV rays – from 2 hours to a whole day!
